Terms of Service

Plain-language terms covering what you can expect from this site and what we ask of you in return.

Last updated:

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the site. We may revise these terms; the revision date at the top of this page tells you when they last changed, and continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.

2. What the service is

We provide free, browser-based calculators and general educational content about United States payroll taxation. The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

3. Not professional advice

Nothing on this site is tax, legal, accounting, investment or financial advice. We are not a tax preparation firm, a CPA practice, a law firm or a registered adviser, and no client, fiduciary or advisory relationship is created by your use of this site. Tax outcomes depend on facts we cannot see. Before you act on any figure produced here, consult a qualified professional or the IRS directly.

4. Accuracy and limitations

We make a genuine effort to keep our data correct and to cite our sources, but we do not warrant that the content is accurate, complete, current or error-free. Tax law changes frequently, sometimes retroactively, and published sources occasionally conflict.

The calculator estimates annual tax liability divided across pay periods. It is not a payroll system and does not reproduce your employer's withholding exactly. Our methodology section sets out in detail what is and is not modelled. You are responsible for verifying any figure before relying on it.

5. Acceptable use

You may use this site freely for personal and commercial decision-making. You may not:

You are welcome to link to any page here, and to quote short passages with attribution and a link.

6. Intellectual property

The written content, design, code and presentation of this site are protected by copyright and belong to us or our licensors. The underlying tax rates and thresholds are facts published by government bodies and are not owned by anyone. Our compilation, selection and presentation of those facts is protected.

7. Third-party links and advertising

We link to government and research sources for verification, and we display advertising through Google AdSense. We do not control third-party sites or the content of advertisements, do not endorse them, and are not responsible for their content, products, services or privacy practices. Any dealing you have with an advertiser is solely between you and them.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for any loss of profits, revenue, data, tax overpayment, underpayment, penalty or interest, arising out of or connected with your use of or inability to use this site, whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or otherwise, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain damages. In those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the smallest amount permitted by law. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

9. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of the site or your breach of these terms.

10. Availability

We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the service at any time without notice or liability.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the site operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country of residence.

12. Severability and entire agreement

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in full effect. These terms, together with our privacy policy and disclaimer, form the entire agreement between you and us regarding this site.

13. Contact
